BCISD Education Foundation Will Support Students and Teachers
Bay City, Texas – May 20, 2019
Community leaders are proud to announce the creation of the Bay City ISD Education Foundation (BCEF). The Education Foundation is a philanthropic charitable organization that will fund projects to enhance teaching and learning and receive and administer gifts for other educational purposes.
The mission of the Education Foundation is to provide opportunities for excellence in education, promote innovation in teaching, and partner with the community to enhance the quality of education for all students. While BCEF is a separate entity from BCISD, it will enhance the school district's mission.
The Education Foundation will achieve its mission by directing resources toward the following goals:
- Encourage all students to work at their highest potential.
- Support staff through innovative teacher grants.
- Recognize staff for exemplary teaching.
- Build community awareness for Bay City ISD and the Education Foundation.
- Involve the community in assuring a quality education for the leaders and workers of tomorrow.
Elizabeth Hewitt is leading the effort as the Board President. She says, “My desire is that this effort will support our students and teachers directly, but that the impact will eventually be felt throughout our community.”
The Foundation will solicit grants and donations from private and corporate sources. These dollars will fund initiatives outside the school district’s normal operating budget.
Foundation Board Secretary Caroline Hawes Dickerson says, “Every donation will count in a big way – whether it’s a corporate donation, a gift through estate planning, or pocket change. Together, we can make a big impact.”
The Foundation has applied for nonprofit status. As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit, donations to BCEF will be tax-deductible. Information on how to donate is forthcoming.
